Union Cabinet Clears ₹14,115 Crore Highway Expansion Projects Across Delhi and Uttar Pradesh

The Union Cabinet approved highway projects worth ₹14,115 crore in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, including an 8.1 km six-lane tunnel on NH-148AE linking Dwarka Expressway with Nelson Mandela Marg and a 117.7 km Kanpur–Kabrai corridor on NH-34. The projects aim to enhance connectivity, reduce travel time, and strengthen national transport infrastructure.

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday approved major road infrastructure projects worth a combined ₹14,115 crore, marking a significant push to expand high-capacity highway connectivity in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

In the national capital, the Cabinet approved the construction of a six-lane road tunnel on National Highway 148AE, designed to link the Dwarka Expressway with Nelson Mandela Marg in the Vasant Kunj area. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated during a briefing that the 8.1-kilometre project will be developed at a total capital cost of ₹6,969.67 crore.

In Uttar Pradesh, the Cabinet also sanctioned the construction of the 117.7-kilometre four- to six-lane access-controlled Kanpur–Kabrai section of National Highway 34. The project has been estimated at a cost of ₹7,145.14 crore and is aimed at improving regional mobility and reducing travel time along a key corridor.

Together, these approvals reflect a continued focus on strengthening India’s highway infrastructure through large-scale, high-capacity road networks intended to enhance connectivity, logistics efficiency, and intercity transport flow.
